Dear All,In response to the Emergency Appeal that was launched by the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Singapore Red Cross is launching a public appeal to raise funds for the victims of the Bay of Bengal earthquake and tidal waves.The earthquake that struck off Sumatra measured 9.0 on the Richter Scale in magnitude according to the US Geographical Survey, making it the world's biggest in 40 years. The current death toll had risen to over 27,000 according to Reuters.

MONETARY DONATIONSThe Singapore Red Cross is appealing for monetary donations to help these victims from the affected countries. The money collected will be sent to IFRC to fund purchases and direct delivery of emergency items like medicine and first aid, food parcels and other relief supplies for the displaced and homeless victims. Please note that due to logistical reasons, we would not be accepting donations in kind.

Cheques should be made payable to "Singapore Red Cross Society". Please write your name, contact number, address and "Tidal Waves Asia" on the back of the cheque.
